Once a familiar fixture on Edinburgh’s Southside, the Woolpack Inn stood proudly at 9–12 Bristo Street. For decades, it served as a popular public house within a bustling neighbourhood of Georgian tenements.
However, like many buildings in the area, the Woolpack Inn fell victim to widespread urban redevelopment in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As part of the University of Edinburgh’s expansion, much of Bristo Street was demolished to make way for modern buildings such as the Appleton and David Hume Towers and the creation of Bristo Square. The Woolpack was swept away during this transformation, and its site today is roughly where the Potterrow Student Union and other university facilities now stand.
