A 1960s colour photo of Westminster Pier on the Victoria Embankment, taken in September 1968. Rising behind the stone river wall are the grand Flemish Renaissance-style buildings of New Scotland Yard (now known as the Norman Shaw Buildings), designed by Richard Norman Shaw and completed in 1890 as the headquarters for the Metropolitan Police. The scene captures the bustling maritime activity of the River Thames during the latter half of the 20th century, set against the backdrop of London’s historic administrative architecture and lush green plane trees lining the embankment.
