A 1960s colour photo of the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner in London, taken in 1968 during the latter half of the 20th century. The neoclassical arch, designed by Decimus Burton as a grand entrance to Buckingham Palace and later moved to its current location, is seen from across the lawn of the central island. Topping the monument is the massive bronze quadriga, the largest bronze sculpture in Europe, which depicts the Angel of Peace descending on the chariot of War. In the foreground, the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington stands prominently on its granite pedestal, while in the background, classic red London double-decker buses, including one with a “Typhoo” tea advertisement, navigate the busy traffic system that was heavily remodelled earlier in the decade.
