A 1960s colour photo of the Crimean War Memorial, also known as the Guards’ Memorial, located at the junction of Waterloo Place and Pall Mall during the latter half of the 20th century. The image showcases the trio of bronze statues: Florence Nightingale on the left, Sidney Herbert in the centre, and the main monument topped by the figure of Honour on the right, which features the word “CRIMEA” inscribed on its granite pedestal. Designed by John Bell and unveiled in 1861, the central memorial commemorates the 2,162 soldiers of the Brigade of Guards who fell during the conflict of 1854–1856. In the background, the grand classical architecture of the Athenaeum Club and other gentlemen’s clubs is visible, while a white classic sports car and a man in a dark suit cross the street, capturing the dignified atmosphere of central London in 1964.
