This authentic 1980s colour photograph, captured in 1986, documents a Wallace Arnold coach traversing a steep and narrow mountain pass in North Wales. The vehicle, a Volvo B10M with Berkhof Esprit bodywork, carries the distinctive cream livery with orange “WA” branding. This particular coach was originally new to Trathens of Plymouth and was later acquired by Wallace Arnold Devon following Trathens’ demise. The archival image captures the coach, registered A146 JTA, as it carefully navigates a single-track road bordered by traditional dry stone walling and a “falling rocks” warning sign. In the background, a silver car follows at a distance against a backdrop of dormant winter trees and grassy Welsh hillsides. This factual record preserves a specific moment in British coach travel history, highlighting the demanding routes serviced by major tour operators in the mid-1980s.
