This authentic 1960s colour photograph, captured in 1963, documents the expansive sandy beach of Traeth Lligwy on the north-east coast of Anglesey, North Wales. The archival image captures the peak of the summer season, with numerous vintage British vehicles parked directly on the grass and sand dunes overlooking the bay. Prominent cars in the foreground include a white Ford Anglia/Popular with the registration BCM 342, a dark green Standard 8 or 10 registered VTU 563, and a light blue Austin A40 Farina. In the mid-ground, families and holidaymakers are seen relaxing amongst the dunes, while the wide, flat sands of the beach stretch out toward the low tide mark. The background features the rugged, rocky coastline that defines this part of the island. This factual record preserves the classic “park on the beach” holiday experience that was characteristic of the 1960s, documenting the landscape of Traeth Lligwy before modern conservation and parking regulations changed the seafront.
