This authentic 1980s colour photograph, captured in 1984, documents the Three Horse Shoes public house in the village of Trecastle, Powys. The archival image features a picturesque row of traditional Welsh terraced cottages lining a sloping main road, with the white-painted pub situated in the foreground. The building displays a prominent rectangular sign for the “Three Horse Shoes” alongside a smaller hanging “B&B” sign and a “Welsh Bitter” brewery placard. The cottages are finished in a variety of cream and white renders with traditional slate roofs and stone chimneys typical of the Brecon Beacons region. At the time of this photograph, the inn served as a central fixture of village life, providing hospitality and accommodation to those travelling through the Usk Valley. This factual record preserves the historic streetscape of Trecastle before the pub’s eventual closure, capturing a quiet moment in the heritage of this rural Powys community.
