A bustling 1973 scene on the Strand, looking toward the gothic spires and arcaded frontage of the Royal Courts of Justice, completed in 1882 and one of the most striking landmarks on the eastern end of the street. The pavement is busy with office workers, shoppers and students, capturing the Strand’s characteristic weekday energy. In the centre stands a large billboard — a familiar feature of this stretch of the Strand in the 1970s — advertising Captain Morgan rum and Silk Cut cigarettes (for 26 1/2 p). Below it is a row of small shops including cafés, tobacconists and a newsagent, typical of the pre-redevelopment mix that once lined the area. A Ford Capri heads west toward Aldwych, while delivery lorries and 1970s sedans fill the road behind it.
