The Smithy at the St Fagans National Museum of History is a faithful reconstruction of a traditional blacksmith’s forge, offering a glimpse into the essential role blacksmiths once played in rural Welsh communities.
The building itself was originally located in Garndolbenmaen, Gwynedd, where it served as the village smithy before being dismantled and relocated to St Fagans in 1951. Rebuilt stone by stone, it now forms part of the museum’s open-air collection, which showcases historic Welsh buildings from different periods and regions.
