This 1980s photograph shows The Queen’s Head on Pinner High Street in bright winter sun, its black-and-white timbered frontage, leaded windows and steep tiled roofs giving the pub much of its old village character. The large hanging Benskins sign is especially prominent, carrying both the brewery name and a painted Queen’s Head panel dated 1705, while just beyond it the projecting sign for The Olde Tudor Rose can also be seen. A closer look at the pub window reveals painted wording advertising “The Queen’s Head” and “Real Old Ales of the Best Traditional Cast Ales,” adding another useful piece of period detail. With shoppers walking past and neighbouring shopfronts still intact, the image captures a highly recognisable stretch of old Pinner before later changes to the high street.
