This authentic 1960s colour photograph, captured in 1963, documents the leisurely atmosphere at the Caribbean Hotel located on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, Florida. The archival image provides an elevated view of the resort’s oceanfront amenities, including a large rectangular swimming pool filled with guests, a diving board with white safety railings, and a manicured grassy lawn where visitors are sunbathing in lounge chairs. Tall coconut palms with white-painted trunks dot the landscape, leading the eye toward the sandy shore and the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. To the left, a portion of the hotel’s white masonry facade and an outdoor terrace with striped lounge chairs are visible. Originally built in 1941 and designed by architect Igor Polevitzky, the Caribbean was a prominent example of the late Art Deco and early MiMo (Miami Modern) styles that defined the “Millionaire’s Row” section of the beach. Today, the building is still standing, having been meticulously restored and converted into luxury condominiums known as the Caribbean Miami Beach. This factual record captures the classic mid-century vacation lifestyle that established Miami Beach as a premier international destination.
