The scene is dominated by the massive brick structure of the Thames Tunnel Mills, a prominent flour mill that has since been converted into residential apartments. To the left of the mills stands the famous Mayflower pub, a historic inn marking the site where the Mayflower ship departed in 1620 on route to Plymouth and then the USA. Rising above the warehouses is the elegant white spire of St Mary the Virgin church, which serves as a landmark for the old village of Rotherhithe.
