Surrey Commercial Docks, Rotherhithe 1969

Today, the Surrey Commercial Docks have been almost entirely transformed into the residential and commercial district of Surrey Quays. Following the closure of the docks in 1970, many of the basins were filled in to create new housing developments, shopping centres, and ecological parks like the Russia Dock Woodland. The industrial cranes and timber wharves seen here have been replaced by modern apartments and pedestrian walkways, though the historic Greenland Dock remains as a marina. The tall chimney and gritty warehouses of 1969 have largely vanished, replaced by the clean lines of 21st-century urban regeneration.
