A surviving Stratford and Moreton Tramway wagon seen in 1977, preserved as an early reminder of one of Warwickshire’s most unusual railways. The simple timber body, heavy wooden framing, iron-strapped sides and large spoked wheels reflect the primitive design of goods wagons from the horse-worked tramway era, long before the standardised railway freight stock of later Victorian times. Mounted on a short demonstration length of track beside a stone wall, the wagon has the feel of a historic relic rather than a conventional museum exhibit, with its rough construction helping to show how basic early railway vehicles could be. It is an evocative survival from the formative years of rail transport, linked to the old Great Western Railway successor to the Stratford & Moreton line.
