Street scene at the junction of St Margaret’s Place and Queen Street in King’s Lynn in 1958. Dominating the right-hand side is the town hall, its ornate stone façade and arched windows reflecting King’s Lynn’s long civic history and medieval prosperity.
Opposite, a row of older buildings lines the street, their simpler brick and timber construction contrasting with the grandeur of the municipal building. A small saloon car is parked nearby while pedestrians and cyclists move through the junction, capturing the everyday rhythm of the town centre in the years before later traffic management and redevelopment altered the area.
Much of this historic core survives, making the image a valuable record of King’s Lynn’s streetscape during the post-war period.
