This 1984 view shows St Katharine Docks during its early years of redevelopment, with a mixture of preserved working craft, marina activity and new housing rising around the old basin. In the foreground are moored historic vessels and dockside railings, while across the water the red Nore lightship and other preserved boats sit against a backdrop of scaffolded quayside buildings and newly built stepped concrete apartment blocks. The contrast between the old dock craft, the surviving warehouse-style structures and the unmistakably 1980s residential development captures the area at a moment of major change, when this former commercial dock was being remade as a mixed marina and housing complex. It is a strong record of St Katharine Docks in transition, still rough-edged in places but already taking on the shape of the redeveloped waterside district seen today.
