South Kensington station in 1982, with the curved Underground platform lined with a striking run of period posters and concert adverts beneath the cream-and-blue tiled tunnel roof. The wide-angle view emphasises the sweep of the platform and the dense visual clutter of London Underground advertising, including posters for UB40, Altered Images, Japan, Radio Luxembourg, Evian water and Manpower, all of which firmly date the scene to the early 1980s. A few passengers wait in the distance while the illuminated platform edge and repeated roundels draw the eye down the curve of the tunnel. It is an especially vivid view of the Underground as a public interior, capturing not just the station itself but the graphic style, commercial advertising and atmosphere of London travel in the period.
