This 1972 view at Silversands Holiday Camp, Hayling Island, shows part of the children’s play area with a metal slide, swings, rocking ride and a shallow paddling pool set among the camp buildings. Around the edge stand a mixture of single-storey chalet blocks and a larger two-storey accommodation block with open balcony walkways, while children play on the grass and around the water on a warm summer day. The scene has the practical, family-orientated feel of a smaller seaside holiday camp, with open lawns and simple amusements rather than the more theatrical pool complexes seen at some larger resorts. Silver Sands stood on Rails Lane in Eastoke and closed in 1988, with part of the site now redeveloped as housing known as Silversands Gardens.
