The scene is full of useful period detail, including the yellow cab front, Network SouthEast-style red, white and blue striping, the prominent red buffer-stop structure, the low platform with its red lamp standards, and the station buildings behind with slate roof, brick gable end and surviving Victorian character. The Isle of Wight line remained one of the most distinctive parts of the British Rail network at this date, still using elderly former London Underground stock rebuilt for island service, and views like this capture that mixture of faded modern branding and much older railway infrastructure especially well.
