A 1960s colour photo of a Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) Douglas DC-8-55, registration SE-DBD and named ‘Folke Viking’ in 1965. The aircraft features the classic SAS livery with the “First Over The Pole” and “Around The World” slogans visible along the fuselage. Passengers are deplaning in the background, while in the foreground, a young boy in a blue shirt and light jacket stands on the apron alongside a man in a dark suit. Various ground service vehicles are present, including a white SAS-branded van and a red fuel truck, capturing the atmosphere of international travel in the mid-60s.
Today, the Douglas DC-8 has long been retired from passenger service, replaced by more efficient wide-body and long-range twin-engine aircraft. The specific aircraft, SE-DBD, continued to fly for several decades before being withdrawn from use.
