This authentic 1980s color photograph, captured in 1980, documents the roadside landscape of Gulf Blvd in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The archival image is dominated by the large, shield-shaped wooden sign for “Schrafft’s Sandpiper Beach Motel,” which includes a prominent sandpiper bird graphic and a marquee for the “Brown Derby” restaurant. In the background, the distinctive orange-roofed A-frame architecture of a Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge and Restaurant is visible, along with its own pylon sign further down the commercial strip.
