This 1981 street scene on the Strand captures preparations for the royal wedding of Charles and Diana, with red, white and blue bunting strung across the road and a television crew raised above the pavement on a hired platform. The Strand WC2 street sign is clearly visible behind them, while below a Routemaster on route 176 to Camberwell Green passes by carrying Lois Jeans & Jackets adverts on its rear. Shopfronts include Paradiso and a large sign for 5 Italians, helping to place the scene in its early-1980s West End setting. It is a good record of central London in the days around the royal wedding, when much of the route through the capital was being dressed for the celebrations and media crews were already in position.
