Royal Scots Greys Monument, Edinburgh 1967

The Royal Scots Greys Monument is a striking bronze statue located in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, with the castle as its dramatic backdrop. Unveiled in 1906, it honors the soldiers of the Royal Scots Greys regiment who served and fell in the Second Boer War and later conflicts.

Created by Scottish sculptor William Birnie Rhind, the statue depicts Sergeant-Major Anthony James Hinnigan riding his warhorse, Polly—both real-life veterans of the war. The monument’s sandstone plinth features plaques commemorating the regiment’s sacrifices across multiple wars, including World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and more.
