This authentic 1960s colour photograph, captured in 1969, documents the towering funnels of the RMS Queen Elizabeth during her final years at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The archival image highlights the iconic Cunard Line livery—bright red with black bands—and features a white deckhouse in the foreground equipped with a traditional wooden staircase. A prominent informational plaque is visible on the bulkhead, providing passengers and tourists with technical facts about the ship’s massive funnels. Following her retirement from transatlantic service in 1968, the legendary liner served as a static tourist attraction and hotel in Florida before being sold to C.Y. Tung and moved to Hong Kong. While the ship was tragically lost to fire in 1972, this factual record preserves the scale and grandeur of the “Queen” during her brief residency as a Florida landmark. Today, the site at Port Everglades continues to serve as a world-class cruise hub, though the era of the classic superliner has transitioned into the age of modern mega-ships.
