A superb top-deck view crossing Oxford Circus in 1978, looking north along Regent Street with the spire of All Souls, Langham Place rising in the distance. Directly ahead is Routemaster WLT 385, better known as RM385, its rear panel carrying a bright Mann Egerton advertisement, while the split pedestrian islands and guard rails of Oxford Circus channel the heavy West End traffic around it. To the right is a cream-and-green coach among the stream of cars and taxis, and the shopfronts and soot-darkened stone façades on either side still give Regent Street a noticeably grittier appearance than today. It is a wonderfully characteristic late-1970s central London scene, capturing Oxford Circus before modern paving, cleaner façades and later traffic changes softened the junction.
