A striking 1982 view at Dover Western Docks, with a maze of railway sidings, pointwork and buffer stops spreading out beside the sea wall at the foot of Admiralty Pier. The scene is full of useful detail, including the curving harbour-side walkway with its railings and benches, dockside notices, goods sheds and low railway buildings, while a few people lean on the wall or stroll towards the end of the pier with the Channel stretching away to the right. This was part of the extensive railway complex that served Dover Marine, later Dover Western Docks station, where boat trains once connected directly with cross-Channel services. The whole area has since changed completely, with the former station building converted for cruise use and the trackbed and yard at the Western Docks redeveloped as part of Dover Cruise Terminal.
