This 1966 view at Pontins Osmington Bay, near Weymouth, looks across the outdoor pool during what appears to be a busy organised poolside event. Spectators are seated and standing along the far side of the water, with deckchairs set against the high stone boundary wall and depth markings for 5ft, 6ft, 7ft and 8ft clearly painted along the pool edge. In the foreground are bathers and onlookers gathered near the water, while beyond the wall can be seen more of the camp buildings and the rising Dorset countryside behind. The scene captures the social side of the pool as much as the swimming itself, with the crowd, announcer and waiting competitors suggesting one of the novelty contests or audience-led events that were such a familiar part of holiday-camp life in the 1960s. Osmington Bay later passed out of Pontins use and is now a PGL activity centre.
