This 1965 view at Pontins Dolphin Holiday Camp, Brixham, looks across the outdoor pool towards a grassy slope crowded with holidaymakers sitting, standing and sunbathing. Behind them are rows of the camp’s detached chalet blocks, each raised slightly above the ground with broad front windows and small steps, helping to show the hillside layout of the site. The scene has the feel of a busy summer afternoon, with bathers at the pool edge, deckchairs scattered on the grass and families gathered to watch whatever was happening around the water. Pontins Dolphin stood high above St Mary’s Bay and had more than 300 chalets, mixing older and newer accommodation, but the camp later closed and the site has since been redeveloped for housing.
