This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures a lively social gathering outside the Pig & Whistle pub in 1969. Located on the corner of Little Chester Street, S.W.1, the pub is a handsome brick building with a curved bay window on the first floor where patrons can be seen enjoying their drinks. A large group of people in smart late-sixties attire—men in suits and ties, and women in vibrant sleeveless dresses and patterned skirts—are congregated on the pavement near the entrance. The pub, which later became the Stanhope Arms and then the Grouse & Claret before its eventual demolition, displays its name in traditional gold lettering on a yellow background above the door. This digital download serves as a poignant historical record of a lost London landmark and mid-century social life, perfect to print for yourself as a piece of vintage urban wall art.
