Piccadilly Circus, London, 1974. This bright mid-1970s view captures the famous advertising corner during an in-between moment, with red London Transport Routemaster RM795 (WLT 795) on route 159 passing beneath the giant Coca-Cola sign while crowds wait behind Westminster’s distinctive bronze-painted railings. Three years after its removal, the old position of the famous Guinness clock was still standing empty, the site marked simply “To Let” on the pale frontage to the right of the hoardings. Other visible details include the Oxford Circus direction sign fixed above the bus, the ornate bronze-painted lamp standard, a blue Volkswagen Beetle at the left-hand edge, and period adverts for Polo, Henlys Rover and Skol. RM795 was new in July 1961 and was later preserved, surviving into the present day as one of the many Routemasters saved after withdrawal
