Piccadilly Circus at night, London, 1970. This dark West End view captures the famous advertising corner glowing against the black sky, with the great curved Cinzano The Bianco sign dominating the centre beneath Gold Leaf and above the round Skol International Lager panel. To the left, the famous illuminated Guinness clock is still in place, while below the Cinzano sign can be seen H. Samuel and part of a Lloyds Bank sign. On the right, more of the circus lighting survives in the form of Max Factor, Gordon’s Gin and Wrigley’s Spearmint, with globe street lamps glowing between the hoardings. It is a wonderfully atmospheric night scene from Piccadilly Circus before the later changes to its most famous signs.
