This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures an overcast day at Piccadilly Circus in 1967, featuring several of London’s most enduring landmarks. In the foreground, a classic black Austin FX3 taxi with the registration UXL 888 navigates the junction, while the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain and statue of Eros serve as a backdrop for crowds of people resting on the steps. The majestic stone facade of the Swan & Edgar department store dominates the right background, showing its traditional arched windows and “Sale” signs in the windows. To the left, the “Intra Bank S.A.L.” building is visible along with period street furniture, including globe lampposts and a “Turn Left” traffic signal.
