This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures a distinct change in the famous advertising landscape of Piccadilly Circus during the mid-to-late 1960s. Notably, the large “BP world-wide” flag advertisement that had sat above the “Skol International Lager” sign since 1961 has been removed – leaving the building’s skeletal framework visible. It was replaced in 1968 by Cinzano, The “Guinness Time” clock remains a prominent fixture on the left, while the “Air India” office and “Saqui & Lawrence” jewellers are seen at street level. In the background, the London Pavilion building continues to host a dense array of signs, including “Max Factor,” “Gordon’s Gin,” and “Wrigley’s.” A red “No Right Turn” traffic signal stands in the foreground, framing a group of men in suits and a red London double-decker bus.
