This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the vibrant energy of Piccadilly Circus in 1964. The image features a classic red London double-decker bus on route 22 to Hackney and Homerton, adorned with an advertisement for “Evening Standard” small ads. A vintage black taxi cab crosses in front of the bus, set against the backdrop of the famous Monico building’s neon displays. Visible signs include the iconic “Guinness Time” clock, the “BP world-wide” international flag grid, and “Skol Lager.” Above the BP sign, a large advertisement for “Smoke Player’s” is partially visible, while scaffolding with a “VC10” sign on the left indicates building work of the era. At street level, pedestrians in mid-sixties attire walk past the “Air India” office window. This digital download is a marvellous record of London’s mid-century urban life, perfect to print for yourself as a piece of vintage British wall art.
