This authentic 1950s colour photograph captures a bustling daytime scene at Piccadilly Circus in 1959. The image offers an elevated view of the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain and statue of Eros, with the base of the monument serving as a popular resting spot for pedestrians. The background is dominated by a spectacular array of mid-century advertising, including the large circular Coca-Cola “Delicious Refreshing” sign, a billboard for “Double Diamond” beer, and the ornate Guinness Time clock. To the right, the Monico building features the tiered neon signs for Bovril and Schweppes Tonic Water. A traditional red double-decker bus is seen navigating the junction, alongside several vintage black saloon cars. This archival print is a magnificent record of London’s commercial heart at the end of the decade and serves as an excellent resource for editorial publishing, research, or to print as a nostalgic piece of wall art.
