This authentic 1950s colour photograph captures a bustling daytime scene at Piccadilly Circus in 1956. The focal point on the left is the London Pavilion, which is dominated by a massive, colourful film billboard advertising “Foreign Intrigue” starring Robert Mitchum. In the background, the advertising hoardings include prominent signs for Osram Lamps, B.O.A.C., and Max Factor. The street is filled with the character of mid-century London, featuring a line of vintage black taxis, a red double-decker bus in motion, and pedestrians dressed in formal overcoats and suits. In the background we can see that Benny Hill is on at the Prince of Wales theatre. This archival record is an exceptional resource for editorial publishing, historical research, or to print for yourself as a unique piece of nostalgic décor.
