Petticoat Lane Market, London, in 1972, looking down Goulston Street towards Middlesex Street, which runs left to right beyond the stalls. In the centre is a black Mk1 Ford Cortina, first registered in 1965, standing with its boot open amid the market trading, while rails of second-hand clothing and other goods line both sides of the roadway. To the right, a bold Car Park Entrance sign survives on the wall above a small kiosk, and beyond the market can be seen the stark post-war block that had already begun to change the look of this part of the East End. The mix of parked car, improvised stalls, shoppers in period dress and litter-strewn ground makes this a strong everyday view of Petticoat Lane at street level.
