The scene is full of East End market character, with rails of dresses, coats and knitwear spilling into the walkways and the surrounding shopfronts adding further detail, including Strongs Goods, Scene and Heard records and Cosmet hair cosmetics. Seen from above, the market looks almost overwhelmed by people, capturing the noise, colour and density that made Petticoat Lane one of London’s most famous street markets. It is a wonderfully busy record of the area before later changes in retail and street management altered the feel of Wentworth Street.
