The Peter Pan Railway on Teignmouth seafront in the 1960s, with a child riding one of the miniature locomotives along the narrow-gauge track through neatly kept grass and flowerbeds beside the seafront. Peter Pan Railways were once a common sight at many British seaside resorts, holiday camps and amusement parks, offering simple child-sized train rides that became a familiar part of post-war family entertainment. This example at Teignmouth was set in an especially attractive location, with the small lighthouse in the background, the seafront road beyond and the Devon hills rising behind the town. The railway itself has long since disappeared, but the little lighthouse still survives, making this a particularly evocative record of a vanished seaside attraction.
