The Peter Ives carnival float is captured in this authentic 1960s colour photograph during the Southall Carnival in Middlesex. The archival image shows a traditional horse-drawn cart, pulled by a dapple grey horse with red decorative harness, transformed into an elaborate mobile display for the local fruiterer business. Three children in period dress sit atop the carriage, which is adorned with tall arches of chrysanthemums and dahlias. The front of the float displays neatly arranged tiers of apples, oranges, and pineapples, complete with hand-written price tags in shillings and pence ($3/6$, $2/-$, etc.). This factual record preserves the community spirit and mid-century tradition of the Southall Carnival, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship involved in local trade displays during the 1960s.
