Paxton & Whitfield is one of the true icons of London’s cheesemonger scene, tracing its origins back to an Aldwych market stall in 1742. By 1797 the business had taken on the name of its partners, Harry Paxton and Charles Whitfield, and it has operated continuously under that name ever since. Their flagship shop at 93 Jermyn Street stands out with its distinctive black-and-gold facade. Established at that location in 1896 after moving from number 18, it is arguably London’s most famous cheese counter.
