This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the busy thoroughfare of Oxford Street around 1960, taken from the pavement outside Selfridges looking east. The foreground features a classic Morris Minor Traveller with its distinctive wooden frame navigating the traffic. To the left, the Swears & Wells furrier shop. Ornate Victorian-style lamp posts line the center of the street, while several red double-decker buses and black taxis stretch into the hazy distance toward Oxford Circus. On the right, the “Beautility” sign marks a prominent furniture showroom of the era, and pedestrians in smart mid-century attire, including a man in a sharp grey suit, walk briskly along the wide pavements. This digital download is a wonderful record of London’s retail golden age, perfect to print for yourself as a piece of vintage city wall art.
