Oxenhope station on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in 1981, with BR Standard Class 4 4-6-0 No. 75078 standing at the platform carrying a Pines Express headboard. The wet platform, drifting steam and gathered crowd give the photograph a wonderfully lively preserved railway atmosphere, with children, families and day-trippers crowding close to the engine as it pauses beside the vintage coaching stock. The red-painted lamps, stone station building and wooded cutting beyond add to the line’s distinctive Yorkshire setting, while the locomotive’s black livery and bright headboard make it the clear focal point of the scene. It is a fine record of the Worth Valley in the early preservation era, when special trains like this brought a strong sense of main line steam drama to the end of the branch at Oxenhope.
