Taken on board MV Lochnevis at Oban in 1969, this view looks across the bay towards the waterfront, with gulls sweeping over the harbour and a small cabin cruiser crossing the water. The passenger seating and deck fittings in the foreground place the viewer firmly on the ship, while beyond them stands the familiar line of Oban seafront buildings beneath the wooded hillside.
The large church dominating the middle distance is St Columba’s Cathedral, one of Oban’s best-known landmarks, with its square tower and long waterside frontage easy to pick out from the bay. To the right are more harbour-side buildings and the busy quay, giving the scene a mix of excursion traffic, local life and west coast ferry travel at the end of the 1960s.
