This 1986 view inside the old Victoria bus garage on Gillingham Street captures a fine mix of London road transport from the period, with several red vehicles standing in the yard beneath the depot buildings. Most prominent are a Routemaster on route 29 for Wood Green (WLT 935), a Leyland Titan on route 39 to Putney Bridge Station (OJD 849Y), and another Routemaster on route 11 Victoria. On the right is a London Liner MCW Metroliner for Birmingham (C103 DYE). The scene also includes a red lorry and a red Ford Sierra, adding to the practical working atmosphere of the garage rather than a staged enthusiast’s line-up. It is a particularly good record of Victoria’s bus operations in the mid-1980s, when traditional Routemasters, newer one-person-operated double-deckers and long-distance coach services could still be seen together in the same London depot yard.
