Old Palace Yard, Westminster, in 1973, with a Variety Club Sunshine Coach parked outside the richly ornamented east front of the Palace of Westminster. The cream minibus, registration 16 VAR, is one of the distinctive Sunshine Coaches donated by the Variety Club to schools and organisations supporting disabled and disadvantaged children, their special VAR registrations making them instantly recognisable. Around it are several useful period details, including small parked saloons, uniformed policemen and the soot-darkened Gothic stonework of Parliament, whose tracery, buttresses and pinnacles dominate the whole scene. It is an evocative Westminster street view that combines ceremonial architecture with a now-vanished piece of charitable motoring history.
