Ocean Ridge Motel, Delray Beach 1968

This authentic 1960s colour photograph, captured in 1968, documents the Ocean Ridge Motel located on Adams Road in Delray Beach, Florida. The archival image features a large white masonry sign with cursive “Ocean Ridge” lettering, advertising “Apartments – Hotel Rooms – Efficiencies.” In the foreground, a cream-coloured 1964 Pontiac Star Chief with a Florida license plate is parked under a teal-painted carport. The motel’s courtyard is decorated with vibrant yellow-and-white and green-and-white striped patio umbrellas, where guests are seen enjoying the sunny weather. The architecture is typical of the era’s low-rise coastal motor inns, featuring white-painted brick and teal trim. While the Delray Beach coastline has seen extensive redevelopment over the decades, this site at the corner of Adams Road and A1A remains a nostalgic reminder of the city’s mid-century tourism appeal. Today, the property has been replaced by private luxury residences, but the memory of its roadside hospitality is preserved in this factual record.
