Oasis Complex and Tower under construction, Great Yarmouth 1965 — the building’s main structure is in place, but the hotel floors and observation tower are still to come. When completed later that year, the seafront complex opened with an ice rink, amusements, snack bars and the 12,000-sq-ft Tower Ballroom (later Tiffany’s nightclub). Big names followed through the 1970s, from Slade and The Moody Blues to Status Quo, The Who and AC/DC. Above it all sat the four-storey Oasis Hotel and its rooftop viewing platform overlooking the beach.
Today, the ground floor is home to food outlets and bars, the former hotel floors have been converted into apartments, and the club space has reopened as the Buddha Club — but the building remains one of Great Yarmouth’s most recognisable modern landmarks.
