The street is busy with the functional vehicles of the era, including a black Austin FX4 taxi and a red Ford Transit van parked near the “Doreen Fashion Centre.” An incredibly ornate, multi-globed Victorian lamp post stands as a central monument on the traffic island, contrasting with the more modern, slender bronze street lamps nearby. In the background, the grand, soot-stained architecture of the avenue leads the eye toward the distant trees and white buildings of the West End.
