A Northern line train standing at Edgware in 1987, showing one of London Underground’s 1959 Tube Stock sets beneath the station’s steel canopy and alongside the soot-darkened brick wall of the terminus platform. The destination blind reads Kennington via Charing Cross, while the train also carries the familiar Underground-style route number display on the cab front. Details such as the platform numbers, benches, red litter bin, exposed roof trusses and the damp finish on the train’s curved roof give the scene a very distinctive late-1980s Underground atmosphere. It is a strong terminus view of Edgware before later changes to station presentation, capturing the Northern line in an era when this classic tube stock still dominated the route.
